Ok i have a honda del sol and i want to get some power out of it…basically i want to see what will give me more overall horsepower and which gives the better bang 4 the buck. so build the motor hard with new cams, high comp pistons…etc. or get a turbo build 4 low comp. and put 30psi in it.
so it’s Turbo VS. NA High Compression

When it comes to turbo kits the Edelbrock Perfromer X series kit is probably going to be the best bang/$, considering it has everything you need all in one kit: BOV, turbo gauge, exhaust and intake manifold, wastegate….etc. The whole nine yards. Not to mention, the system uses a piggy back turbo control, so you don’t need to worry about getting the ECU tested and tuned or installing a Hondata chip. Personally, this is the kit I plan on installing on my D16 del Sol, after I rebuild the tranny.
But if you plan on running 30psi boost, on a stock engine, it’s a sure fire way of blowing something up, unless you do some major overhaul of the valves and such… 6-8psi is standard to get a 60-65% WHP increase over stock; more if you have a tuned exhaust. I would also recommend doing a compression test before you even start; make sure what you currently have is in good condition, no use in boosting if your piston rings are fried right?
Your also going to want to think about application. Turbo vs NA Comp each have their advantages and disadvantages depending on the track app. Keep that in mind too! Good luck.
Turbo will allways be a better bang for the buck. The b16 does not have a lot of displacement and allready flows really well stock, modding it NA won’t give you that great results for a decent price. Piecing together a decently good turbo kit and just running 10-15 psi would easily make more power and be more reliable than any all motor NA b16. Just what ever you do make sure you get a gooooood tune.
i personally hate turbos and would never ever put one on any B series or H series motor. but it would be the best way to get alot of power. just make sure its all installed professionally and they have a guarentee cuz if its done wrong and not tuned right your screwed up the *** out of a motor. if you really have the money drop a B18c1 in it out of an integra gsr. its a commonly used motor. or get an ls integra b18 block non vtec throw a b18 or b16 vtec head on it and go ls vtec. its hella quick but it u run any of these hard not reliable for long. as long as you have back up money if anything goes wrong. go ahead and turbo it or motor swap id say then turbo the bigger faster motor.
B16A’s are well engineered, getting more performance will surely sacrifice durability.
If I didn’t care about reliability, I’d choose mods to enhance low-RPM torque – I think that’s the B16a’s weakness.
Boost it! Greddy has a nice full kit.
I had a 99 civic SI all motor and you will never get the same power
that a turbo will make without spending crazy$$$$$$
So boost it and give it a 75 shot.
