I want my honda to be more powerfull… but with its curent transmision, i wonder if i can implant an original turbocharger kit and everything, to add 140HP more… without having problems afterwards with the gear box…

Adding a turbo/super charging greatly improves the performance of your car. However, as with any other car, great lengths of research should be taken to make sure a large increase of horsepower (in this case 140HP!) doesn’t negatively affect/compromise the car itself. Car manufactures limit the horsepower based on the structural integrity of the car and not because they want it to be slower. They do this so everything is “balanced”. For example, you may come across a vehicle that is a base model that has 160hp and another model at 260. Most of the time, the manufacture not only increase the horsepower but also add further improvements to the chassis/body to handle that power increase. Ofcourse, they also tune every other thing to make sure everything else works with the power increase.
In your case, not only should you worry about your transmission but you also need to find out if your vehicle’s chassis/body won’t flex under extreme loads. Other things a turbo charger can affect is your cooling system so make sure whether or not you need an upgraded cooling system. You should visit a Honda Accord forum as many people there modify their cars. As a beginner tip, If you plan on adding a turbo charger, you should reinforce your body by adding aftermarket strut bars to the front and rear of the vehicle which would help reduce the amount of flex on your vehicle’s chassis.
you are crazy for putting a turbo on an auto matic… is yours the vtec 6cyl. or 4cyl? and yes it will mess up the ratios!! i have one and if it’s the v6 vtec you already have 268 to the wheels? so if you’re gonna be racing or something(i’m guessing that’s the only reason why you want more power you dont want an automatic and you dont want it on an 03 becasue hondas arent made to have3,4 and 5 hundred hp. so if you do it something is bound to tear up. but if you want a turbo that bad put it on like a 94-97 honda the parts are waaay cheaper.
i wouldnt turbo an automatic without having enough left over to change out the tranny to a more “performance” one if something goes wrong with the stock tranny. but i truly dont know anything about transmissions. i dont even think i spelt it right
. thats just my thoughts and opinion. its always good to have a plan B.
Jayeeyee’s post is bang on.
If you want to boost power by 140hp, you’re talking a big turbo with a lot of boost. That would be enough to overwhelm not just the gearbox but pretty much everything else on the vehicle as well. I have my doubts that even the engine could handle such a high pressure boost without being modified itself ( new pistons and rods to lower compression ratio would definitely be needed just to start. As a very general rule, you can boost an engine by about 5 PSI on a stock engine. When you go above that, you have to start modifying the internals to help prepare the engine for that type of power surge. However, at 5 PSI, you will not get anywhere close to 140 additional ponies out of the engine ).
