but its a unfair fight because the GTI is turbo’d where as the civic is not and it depends on the driver of course too.
1. Go ahead and throw out basically all those numbers. Totally useless. 197 horsepower at 7800 rpm? Who cares? How often does anyone drive at 7800 rpm? That’s absolutely retarded.
That’s like saying you can fall off a cliff at 150 miles an hour. Doesn’t mean that you’re always capable of 150mph.
2. As far as actual performance….take them to a track, and find out.
Because even if you find stats that say a Civic can do 0-60 in 7 seconds, that’s based on one driver, during one specific situation, with ideal conditions.
Doesn’t mean everyone can duplicate it.
You might get 8 seconds. Or 10.
So unless you pair them up, and race them on a track, there’s no way to prove anything at all.
They are very close. You can check Car & Driver stats if you must, but they are very similar in terms of straight line performance. The VW probably has the edge overall in terms of sportiness, but the Honda is way more reliable. So it depends on what you want.
The GTI will beat the crap out of the Honda. The GTI is a 14 second car where as the honda is a 15 second car.
