5 Comments 21 September 2009

Okay so im 14 and im getting a car in about a year. And i settled on getting a honda civic.I want to get the ek.(96-00) What would be the best swap. I heard that the b16 would be a good choice. The h22 is fairly inexpensive but hard to mount. Keep in mind this is gonna be my first car and i dont have much experience. Orrrrrr should i just turbo the stock motor w/o swap. idk? pleez help

I would B20 block with B16 head, then Boost it. Get ECU chipped, Then get a VTEC Controller. VTEC Controllers have good usage. Get a Boost Controller also if you plan to Boost.
H22 isn’t hard to mount, you have to get Hassport mounts. $4-600
Watch out for boosting, I heard you can’t boost so high on stock internals or else the block will blow.
B16 is your best bet like someone said, boosting a B16 shouldn’t be so hard to do.
My suggestion is pick your mark on what car you plan to do for sure.
Then write down ’simple cheap mods’ you can do to improve performance. Intake, exhaust, headers, lighter rims, carbon fibering parts, cams.. since it’s your first car and you’re still inexperienced like you said, then you should start with something simple before taking huge leaps and risk blowing the block.

Question is do you have the doe. Unless you do it yourself a swap can run you $1000-2000 dollars. Plus the engine it self, and your going to have to put alot of work into it. My brother did a swap by himself which cost almost 3000 dollars. 1500 for the motor, 400 for the motor mounts, 200 for harness, and the rest for other stuff.

Ok, my turn heres the truth your going be youg so first spend at least 6months driving around to make sure your able to drive good enough. Then look at what model you bought DX, HX, CX, EX, Si. Ok if you want to boost DX D16Y7 is a good start 1.6L, EX D16Y8 and Si B16A3 are all good starts. If you want to swap go H2B, meaning you need a adapeter plate/and mounts QSD and Evoulation sells them and you are able to use an H22 and a stronger yes stronger B-series trans get an B16 with LSD for less then $4000 you can have the motor in and running low 14’s high 13’s on a street tire low 13 or even 12’s on slicks depending on what you do. Go to honda-tech.com hybirds section.

honestly as a first car and if this is the first car you have driven, id say keep it stock for a while then go from there. I have a 92 sedan that yeah i know is a sedan but at the stock d15b7 and have hit over 125 with the thing with just a full exhaust and new intake is extremely good. but if you have your heart set on a higher performance engine, I’d go with the b16 for now. its cheap and effective
