Well if you want it fast, you need to do an engine swap. The d16y8 only puts down about 113 HP at the wheels. If you turbo it, you will get about 160-170 at the wheels for around $3,000. a B16 swap will run around $3,000 installed and get you 150 HP at the wheels. The added bonus is it is a much stronger and reliable “starter” platform. If turboing the D16y8 the power potential will be maxed out without doing MAJOR internal mods. However the B16 will still be base. and if more is what you crave, a turbo on the B series will net you around 250 HP at the wheels. as far as bolt-on parts even if you do the Greddy catback exhaust, AEM cold-air intake, DC header, and other little stuff you will spend $1,000-$1,500 for about 15 HP which is only going to get you to the factory crank HP.
go ahead with K&N filter,
exhausts,
turbo or super chargers,
weight reduction kits,
nitrous oxide system,
tuning with professionals,
transmission,
powered fuel,
etc,.
Newer engine (VTEC/DOCH)
Cold air intake
Exhaust
Turbo kit
headers
Weight reduction
thats all i can think of
