I Bought An 03 Honda Civic Lx And Want To Install An Intercooler, Turbo And Bov?

1 Comment 26 August 2009

First off, do any of these coexist with the other. Meaning, does the intercooler help the turbo run and the turbo help the BOV to make that sound? I’m completely clueless. And dont want to get anything I may not need. Second, I don’t know the HP of my car at this moment and dont want to get a turbo nor intercooler that doesn’t meet or greatly exceeds my HP. How do I find out my current HP?

You probably want a turbo kit made for your model specifically. Otherwise I would recommend a fairly small turbo so that it spools fast on the small displacement engine (such as a Mitsubishi TD04-13G – or smaller – which supports up to 280hp).
The intercooler allows the turbocharged air to be cooled before combustion. This allows the turbo to run more boost safely without detonation. Usually anything more than 8 psi boost requires intercooling. A BOV (or BPV) attaches to the intercooler, and releases boost pressure when you go off throttle.
You are also going to need additional fueling components, probably upgraded injectors and pump. Also recommend custom dynotuning for best results.
The 2003 LX’s 1.7L engine makes 115 horsepower in stock form.
