I bought a new computer with Windows XP Pro and i’ve installed a SMC 802.11g Turbo 108Mbps Wireless PCI Card in my system. I’ve already installed its driver using the CD given and so far i’m not able to connect my computer to an existing wireless network at home.
My wireless network consist of 1 Linksys wireless access point. My sister has a computer with a Linksys wireless adapter(using USB) that is already successfully able to connect in our wireless network. Is it possible that since i’m using SMC and the network is made up of Linksys products, it couldnt get connected?
I’ve tried using their EZ Connect g for connection and had selected the correct network name(SSID) and Channel but when i hit the ‘Apply Changes’ button, nothing happens except at the Link Information, it switches from ‘Associated’ to ‘Not Associated’ simultaneously on the status field. The ‘Radio’ is On but i cant seem to be connected. Could someone please help guide me.
try contacting your wireless network provider and state your problem. they should send a technician to your home to assist you in setting up your system.
not sure but could it be that you have an 802.11g card but your network is 802.11b?
SMC and Linksys use different configuration protocols. You need to setup your card manually since the network is Linksys.
Is there a security? WPA? WEP? Radius? PSK?
You need to setup the card to Infrastructure mode. NOT AD-HOC.
You also must type in the security code (usually a Hex number) into the correct protocol type.
Then try to connect again.
WHat you need to do is try and stick with the same brand. If you have a linksys router and cards stick with that company as their products will work best with each other compared to mixing of companies. Troubleshoot and change the protocols on the card to connect. good luck
