I dont know much about modifying cars and want to do it right. I need some advice on what brand of turbo I should go with. What else do I need to change on my car to get the best performance out of it and still be reliable?

If you know nothing about cars and you want a turbo make sure you take the time to learn what every part of the turbo kit does first. There is no rush on a project like this, it is a want not a need. Look at 100% on type kits, like greddy. Once you learn what it takes to turbo your car you may feel confident piecing together your own kit and you can save $1000.
A turbo if properly tuned for the car can increase gas mileage. On my 240sx KA-T I get 35mpg on road trips. This is because my fuel is tuned and the turbo is just large enough that I am not in boost unless I want to be. Now a turbo has the ability to lower your gas mileage if you beat on it all the time. There is a reason why a big part of the world uses small 4cyl turbo engines. I am not sure why america never understood this.
look into greddy turbo kits……they are 50 states smog legal so when smog time comes around you wont have no problem passing……you’re gonna have to beef up the fuel system like fuel injectors, fuel pump, ecu management, fuel pressure regulator just note buy installing a turbo you’ll see a lost of mpg since the turbo will require more gas. you’re going to want to invest in a intercooler so it cools the air coming into the motor, also a turbo timer can help save your turbo life a bit ..wut this does is when u turn your car off all that hot oil thats in your turbo would just sit there cooking the turbo away, with the turbo timer what this does its cools your turbo slowly so that it can first cool down the turbo then turn off… a boost controller is another nice tool you’re gonna want to invest in also …keep in mind to keep your boost down …usually thats anywhere from 1psi to 7-8 psi max on stock block……good luck
