i heard from a reliable friend that having turbo on my R18 honda civic 07 coupe A/T is unsafe and runs a risk of imploding… even after replacing the stock ECU with a custom hondata reflash. If so i guess i gotta spend some cash to convert it to stick cuz I plan to have this car until i graduate and its my 1st year in college =] and no i cant “just buy an SI” or “just buy a stick civic” cuz the thing is under my dad’s name…. mofo just came home with it one day and surprised me and 1st thing i said was “…dad… its not a stick…” hahaha but im happy, and willing to spend some cash on it for the ladies ^..^ plus he says he’s conna either buy me a Vette or a 95 supra if i can find it after i graduate =], ANYways thanks for reading my inquery and any info i get would be fantastic. Oh and also, if u can help me out on where to find a custom hondata reflash for my R18 that would be great, cuz all most of the advertised ones are for the K20 civics =..= thanks =]

yes you can turbo an auto civic, I havent seen too much on the market for turbos for the R18 engine though, like everyone else said your friend is an idiot!!! I’ve never heard of an engine imploding. Many car makers have automatic cars that are turboed I.E. volvo, volkswagen, saab. anyways having a turbo on an automatic isnt going to be that great, I think you should just save your turbo money for when you get that vette or supra. unless you already have it
your friend is completely wrong.
It is much “safer” than having a turbo with a manual, as you can program shift points to save the engine.
On a light, rear drive car, an unexpected shift could send you spinning with high power levels. Civic….no worries. Any power increase shortens the life of your engine/trans. On any car…..more power=shorter life. Many boosted Civics last quite a while. The big killer is pre-detonation caused by more boost than the fuel spray allowes. Plenty of fuel spray+moderate boost=no worries. Simple.
do me a favor. throw your friend of the cliff.
yes you can turbo an automatic. since your car has a r18 engine, finding a turbo right now will be difficult.
And with a racing ecu, you will be fine, but just make sure, your turbo kit comes with an intercooler so you don’t blow up the engine (if thats what he was implying to)
btw your car is in warranty most likely now. don’t do anything to yet. warranty is very important
You can run a turbo with an automatic, I don’t know what the hell your friend is trying to tell you with the “imploding” business. However you will have to spend some money to beef up the tranny in order to do it if you plan on running any significant amount of boost, converting auto to stick in an ‘07 Civic isn’t an easy task, my advice would be to just keep it stock until you can find a better car to toy with, especially if that civic is still under warranty, you can kiss that goodbye with a turbo.
