you see turbo ls engines because they come standard with low compression pistons, so a racer can just throw on a turbo without changing the pistons.

i have a b18b1 i recently just bought it is a great motor for turbo or all motor you will need to build it with better parts for max performance but is a normal swap for people seeking better performance in civics

The LS engine name is the Integra 1.8 liter B18B engine. The reason it's called that is because it is the engine used in the Integra LS. When you see them as a turbo LS engine, it's because someone had the engine built up with a turbo kit. LS is also used when talking about the B20 CRV engine- which is essentially an Integra engine with larger pistons. Many people are swapping these engines into standard Civics because Integras, CR-Vs and Integras run on the same platform.

The turbo LS engines you see are 1.8 liter DOHC non-vtec engines which came oem in Acura Integras with the "LS" trim (hence the associated name). They were an engine made with less performance in mind than their vtec brethren but are a very popular choice when it comes to forced induction due to their already lower compression, being relatively easy to find, and low price. And to clear up what Terrence posted earlier, NO, people do not refer to CR-V B20 engines as "LS" engines. If they do, they know not of what they speak. Though these two engines are quite similar in design, (DOHC non-vtec) they are not one and the same.
