Toyota Mr2 Or Honda Prelude?

5 Comments 20 January 2010

I am torn between two cars. The first:
1992 Toyota MR2 G-Limited (Yellow)
155,000 KM
2.0L Non-Turbo 3S-GE engine / manual transmission.
Mag wheels and new tyres all round.
Factory sounds / CD player.
Alarm.
($2800 US)
The second:
1994 Honda Prelude Si-VTEC (Silver)
168,000 KM
2.2L H22a VTEC engine / manual transmission.
Standard Honda alloys.
Alpine stereo system w/ Sub, 10 disc CD changer and speakers.
No alarm.
($2400 US)
I am buying a car to drive and have fun driving but some practicality would be nice. Both of these rides seem like a good choice but I can only choose one and despite the similar prices they are two very different cars.
Please help me decide which car is the best buy and the pros and cons of each. Non-biased answers only please.

Ian F pretty much said it….
If you want a place to take your friends along, short of tying them to the roof, the Honda is going to be a more practical car… along with having someplace to put your groceries for the ride home from the store.
On the other hand, the MR2 is going to be more fun to drive. They handle like they are on rails and performance mods are abundant.
One thing you might consider…. The Prelude is a four seater car and while it is still classified as a “sports car”, it will be a lot less expensive to insure than the MR2 with it’s 2 seater set-up.
Both cars are very sound mechanically so I wouldn’t really worry about which one is going to last you the longest. A lot of that has already been determined by who’s been driving them.
    I hope this helps…

If you want a back seat and a trunk, the Honda.
If you don’t care, the Toyota.
    See, that was easy.

toyotas are so much better than hondas! plus, are less often broken into.

i would go with the prelude, besides if you take care of the honda they usually last longer and can withstand alot…. but if you are trying to fix it up, i would go with the MR2 they have different body kits you can buy, the kits will make the
MR2 look like a ferrari…. They both i think are around the same horsepower so i would just go with the prelude…
